unit I: Atomic Structure and Periodicity |
|
|
We've saved the best for last, the next several units are fairly easy and largely review from baby chemistry. This unit centers around the atom. I know it seems strange but we have yet to really talk about atoms, what makes them, and how we know what we know about them. Atoms are complex and parts of them can be seen as a wave or a particle. Check out this MinutePhysics episode about how Maxwell Planck found the complexity of matter so confusing that he threw the science away and started over. |

Here is some background information that is not in any of the notes, but you will have to know. Watch the two videos below and follow your notes.

Going for a five?
For those students who are seeking a 5 on the AP exam, simply attending class will not be enough. You will need to do some work out side of class. This means watching some more lectures on your own time. The videos can be QUITE long, however the material in them is amazing. It was created by the goddess of chemistry, Rene McCormick, a teacher from Texas with stellar AP Chemistry exam pass rates who has also served on the text creation committee. I do not expect you to sit though them all at once, however you should watch a little each night. When I learned the material I would do 10 to 15 minute segments, which is what I recommend.
